Welcome to my portfolio!
I'm Carolyn Diaz, a Mexican-American, first-generation student who graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in International Relations & Global Studies.
From the DFW metroplex, I discovered a passion to connect with others & document their life stories while in my high school's yearbook staff. This led me to first major in Journalism going into university, where I also carried a dream to become a foreign correspondent. This led me to intern with Star Local Media and FOX 4 DFW, as well as become involved with news student organizations such as The Daily Texan and Texas News Channel.
However, my appreciation for storytelling soon evolved beyond journalism. During my internship with Malala Fund’s communications team, I was introduced to international development work, sparking a shift in my career aspirations. I realized that while journalism amplifies voices, I wanted to be directly involved in policy, community engagement, and capacity-building efforts.
Though some things have changed, some remain the same:
a curiosity to understand the world around me and a drive to push for social change.
